Printer cartridges can make a mess and stain your hands or clothes, mainly when you handle them to insert into the printer. There are several solutions to remove them, depending on whether they involve your skin, white or colored fabrics. 

Here’s how to clean a printer ink stain.

Case 1: Clean a printer ink stain from your skin

If the ink has stained your hands or another part of your skin:

    – Rinse your skin immediately with cold water.

    – Wash with a mildly abrasive soap.

    – Rinse off.

The ink stain should disappear.

Good to know: if the documents produced by the printer cause these stains, there is a malfunction! Then proceed to clean your printer.

Case 2: Washing a printer ink stain on white fabrics

If the ink has stained a white garment or fabric, do not rub the ink:

    – Dab it up with a clean sponge or cloth.

    – Rinse immediately with cold water and a little bleach.

    – Rinse the fabric again with cold water.

    – To avoid staining, wash the garment as usual immediately after stain removal.

Warning: do not use hot water! Unlike common assumptions, soaking an ink-stained fabric in hot water will not dissolve or evaporate the ink. Instead, it will set it more firmly into the fabric, making removal very hard.

Case 3: Removing a printer ink stain from colored fabrics

If the ink has stained a colored garment or fabric, do not rub the ink:

    – Dab it up with a clean sponge or cloth.

    – Rinse immediately with cold water and then use either:

        ◦ cold water-diluted detergent with ammonia;

        ◦ if the fabric is fragile or if you do not have a detergent containing ammonia: 70 ° alcohol, white toothpaste, hydrogen peroxide, or lemon juice;

        ◦ or hairspray, which can also be effective in diluting the ink: spray on the stain and then dab with a piece of cloth until it disappears.

        ◦ To avoid possible stains, wash the garment properly right after stain removal.

Tip: it is recommended to carry out this operation immediately after the damage is noticed or, failing that, as soon as possible, and to carry out a test on a small area of the fabric, as each material may react differently.

Note: Do not even use lukewarm water because it will bind the ink in the textile fibers making it difficult to remove the printer ink stain.
