Cleaning is not something most of us like doing but it is something that we have to do espceially, when it comes to our workspace and desk. Most officers are designers to make people more productive. From time to time, we all dread seeing our workspace because it is a total mess, and this is something that has happened to all of us who have an office job. We tend to get caught up on the more important matters, especially when we are under a pile of work and on a time crunch.
One efficient way to keep your team productive and more efficient is to ensure that the workplace is clean at all times. Even if there are cleaners to clean the office, you are in charge of your cubicle and desk, and you also need to keep them tidy. So, without further ado, let’s dive into this blog and learn some of our best tips to keep your workspace clean.
1. Clean it at the end of the day
At the end of our workday, let’s be honest, none of us want to work or be productive, but taking 5 minutes to tidy up your desk can make a difference. I am a procrastinator at heart, but at the end of the work week, you will see a mess on your desk if you do not declutter it from time to time.
Before leaving your workspace at the end of the day, make sure that you do the bare minimum and clean it up by throwing any unessential pieces of paper and wiping down any food, particularly if any. Also, if you are a big coffee drinker like me, make sure that you rinse your coffee cup/mug at the end of the day to avoid any sticky mess.
You might be a little overwhelmed the next day if you come into an unhygienic mess, which is why we recommend you clean your workspace at the end of your working day. So, even if you are lazy like me, do the bare minimum to not be overwhelmed when you have to finally clean it all out.
2. Get rid of loose paper
My office has moved away from paper as far as possible, and we have computerized most of our paperwork, and even our payslips are received via mail, which is fabulous for our planet. But sometimes we need paper, which is almost indispensable; this is why you need to get rid of them so that they don’t stack and create a mess on your desk. Don’t just throw them away, but rather recycle them, and mother nature will thank you for that.
However, the nature of an office job entails a lot of paperwork and unwanted sticky notes that we forget to get rid of after using them. We tend to forget about them, and they create a horrific paper monster on your desk without you even noticing it. Organize your folders and fix your workspace, so it is neat and tidy.
3. Take care of your virtual workspace
Your desk is not the only workspace that matters, especially after the last 2 years; most of us have had to work remotely, which is one of the primary reasons you need to keep your desktop clean. Working from home is something that many of us do these days, which is why we need to keep our virtual workspace organized. Your desktop is your virtual workspace, and keeping it clean and organized is essential.
Now, let’s play a game! Take a look at your desktop. Can you see your desktop background? If the answer is no or kind of, then I think it is high time to organize it, my OCD can’t work with a messy desktop, and I have to organize all my documents into appropriate folders and sub-folders and sub-sub-folders. Organize your files and documents into separate folders and delete the unnecessary ones (we don’t need an episode of hoarders here, so get it together).
For work documents, you can upload all your files onto a public cloud which you or your company should create, and it can be an easy way to share files, saving space and enabling faster sharing. Try our virtual office cleaning tips to have a clear digital workspace, which will help declutter it in the long run. So, give it a go and tell us all about it.
4. Fridge Friday routine
If you work in a common office space and share it with a lot of colleagues, then it is very likely that you all share an office fridge. With our hectic work schedules, we sometimes forget our meal in the refrigerator and leave it there for a while; not only is this not economically savvy, but it can also create a stench if left for far too long.
Some people tend to leave their food in the fridge and eat out and sometimes even forget it there for quite a stretch of time, and we don’t even notice it until there is a foul smell coming out of it. An easy way to avoid this is by clearing the fridge every Friday evening and throwing away any expired food.
