But it cleans my clothing, therefore, it shouldn’t require cleaning, right?’, we hear you say, and sure, your washing machine does need cleaning. When your washing machine is dirty, it won’t be as successful at cleaning your clothes, which means you’ll have to use extra detergent to compensate. Don’t! Extra detergent in each load raises your detergent costs and reduces the life of your garments!
Adding extra chemicals to your clothing causes it to wear out faster, resulting in you spending more money on new clothes every year. Thank you, but no. These objects quickly become filthy. Keeping your washing machine clean will ensure that your laundry is always fresh and extend the life of your appliance.
Why Do You Need to Clean Your Washing Machine?
The inside of your washing machine may not appear to be unclean, but can you smell that musty damp if you stick your head inside? That’s mildew, and it’s wreaking havoc on your garments. This is commonly caused by a slow build-up of cleaning fluids preventing the machine from emptying properly; as a result, there will be water trapped in the detergent dispenser, which will become stagnant and smelly.
This may be a serious problem, but don’t panic; it’s a simple cure.
Method 1: A Quick Fix
Removing your detergent dispenser and cleaning it thoroughly is an excellent thing to do regularly. How much of a difference this makes is incredible? Remove this component if possible and soak it in hot soapy water before scrubbing it. Replace it and smell how much fresher your clothes are. It’s a genuine eye-opener.
Method 2: A Deep Clean
Get yourself some soda crystals,’ which are sodium carbonate crystals that are fantastic at breaking away clogged-up dirt.
When mixed with water, they form a moderately alkaline solution, which is ideal for dissolving the built-up cleaning fluids and sludge without harming your equipment. These are a must-have item for every basic cleaning kit, and they can be used for a variety of jobs – get some!
So, take your miracle soda crystals, measure out roughly 500g for a regular household-sized washing machine, then pour it in the same spot as your detergent. Make sure there’s no laundry in the drum because your garments won’t be able to take this strong wash, then put your machine to the hottest setting. This will descale the filthy interior of your machine and, hopefully, remove any clogs.
After that, wipe the inside of the machine with a damp cloth, giving special attention to the door seal, as these rubber seals provide the ideal environment for mould and mildew to grow. This will eliminate any residue left behind from the soda crystal cleaning and make your washer sparkle. In addition, after each wash, wipe the door seals of your washing machine and keep the drum door open to allow any remaining moisture to evaporate; drying it out prevents mould from growing.
