What is Green Cleaning and Why is it Important?

While we try to make everything around us more eco-friendly and work towards preserving the environment, cleaning should not be left out. You may be wondering what “green cleaning” means, and it simply means cleaning using products that do not harm the environment.

Green cleaning has many benefits, not only for the environment but also for ourselves, imagine using toxic products everyday for cleaning. Let’s take a look at why it is important for everyone to turn to green cleaning…

Why is it important?

Have you ever felt dizzy while cleaning? It’s normal because most cleaning products contain a lot of harmful ingredients. They may claim to remove any stain in seconds, but believe me, it has the same impact on your health…

Fragrances more precisely synthetic fragrances.

Almost all cleaning products currently on the market claim to be non-toxic, but most of them also contain synthetic fragrances. Synthetic fragrances are not as toxic as other ingredients that may be found in toxic products, but they do have side effects that need to be considered.

According to studies, fragrances used in cleaning products contain a mixture of synthetic compounds derived from petroleum, which are known to cause hormonal changes and can cause serious problems such as cancer, a weak immune system, allergies and infertility. Using eco-friendly products helps to reduce all these risks as they do not contain synthetic fragrances.

Antibacterial (more harm than good)

While many soaps claim to be antibacterial, they are no stronger than regular soap, and however, they contain more aggressive ingredients. You may notice your skin becoming drier if you stop using antibacterial soap.

The same applies to antibacterial cleaning products; even though it is recommended to wear gloves when cleaning, your skin may become drier when it comes into contact with the solution.

Less pollution, in all the terms.

Of course, eco-friendly cleaning causes less pollution. Usually, manufacturers develop green products that are more environmentally friendly, non-toxic (better for health) and biodegradable. So from the product to the packaging, everything is green.

Healthier for the family

If you have children at home, you should seriously consider switching to green products. Spending a whole day cleaning your house while your children are at home can lead to serious health problems. They are still developing, and breathing in so many toxic ingredients will only harm them.

Some cleaning products promote the development of asthma or other lung complications, especially in children under 3 years old.

Less costly

Society, or rather manufacturers, has made us believe that we need a product for every item or room in our home. Do you know how much the floor, the counter-top, the mirror, the sink and so on can cost at the end of the day? Of course, you don’t buy it all at once, but when you add it up, it adds up quite a lot.

I think I should tell you that you don’t need a different product for everything, maybe for wood and leather, but most products are pretty much the same and have the same ingredients. That’s why it’s better to go for eco-friendly cleaning products; they are cheaper and usually made as all-purpose products, or even better, you can make them yourself.

Baking soda, vinegar and all these things are already available at home. To change this mindset that you need a strong scent to know your house is clean, you can buy a little perfume after cleaning or light some candles. Let us know in the comments what you think about switching from conventional products to green products.
