Recommendations for Eliminating the Smell of Tobacco
Before we get to the tips, here are a few recommendations to keep the smell of tobacco out of your home:
Air Your Home Daily
If you ventilate your home daily, you will prevent cigarette smoke from settling and permeating the furniture or walls of the room. Moreover, with ventilation, the circulation of air is favored and especially, the appearance of moisture, mold, fungus and other micro-organisms on the furniture, walls and ceilings is avoided.
In addition, ventilation is one of the best tricks to keep the house smelling clean.
Clean the Ashtrays Daily
Ideally, you should stop smoking, but if this is not possible, cleaning the house is essential so that the smell does not remain in the room. For this reason, we recommend that you dispose of the butts and ashes and clean the ashtray daily with soap and water. If the odor persists in the ashtray, wash it with water and vinegar or water and lemon.
Clean Furniture Frequently
For example, instead of just dusting the furniture, you can wipe the furniture and windows with a cloth soaked in white vinegar. White vinegar, being an ecological product, will not damage them. On the contrary, it will neutralize and eliminate that bad smell that tobacco leaves on the furniture. If you notice a bad smell on your clothes, you can also use vinegar to eliminate it permanently.
Vinegar
There is a fabulous trick to remove the smell of tobacco from the house. In a small bowl, pour half a cup of hot water and 1/4 cup of white vinegar. Place the bowl in rooms that smell strongly of tobacco. Vinegar, as they say, is a very effective product to deodorize objects, textiles and environments. Change the bowl every 3 days.
If you are not convinced by this solution, in a vase, pour two cups of water plus one cup of white vinegar. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil (lavender, rose, vanilla, coconut, etc.).
We also recommend cleaning furniture with water and vinegar to completely neutralize the bad smell tobacco leaves in a room.
Coffee Beans
Do you like coffee? If the answer is yes, you’ll love this tip, because pure coffee, i.e. coffee beans, are perfect for removing the smell of tobacco from a room, living room, kitchen or other. Simply fill a small bowl with water and pour in a generous amount of coffee beans.
Place the bowl in the affected areas and change it once a week. Not only will this eliminate the bad smell, it will leave your home smelling more pleasant.
Incense Burners
Incense burners are very effective in neutralizing and eliminating the smell of tobacco from a room. The most effective are eucalyptus and thyme incense sticks. Simply light them for a few minutes each day.
You can also choose to place a small container of water and a few drops of alcohol in the rooms where you smoke. If you don’t have incense on hand, choose odor-neutralizing candles or homemade air fresheners, which do more than eliminate the smell of tobacco, they camouflage it.
Sand in Ashtrays
Putting a little sand in the ashtrays, after smoking or before, will be a great help so that the smoke from the butts does not disperse in the room. If you have cats, it’s perfectly fine to throw cat litter in the ashtrays. We love this trick!
Air Purifier
Air purifiers are devices that trap air particles from the environment, pass them through a HEPA filter and make it clean. You can find them in different sizes and some include the use of essential oils to scent the home.
Tobacco Smell in the House without Anyone Smoking?
If no one is smoking in your home and you still notice that your house smells like tobacco, it is possible that the cigarette smoke is coming from a neighbor who is smoking in his window or on his balcony. The best thing to do in this case is to close the windows and doors and try to air out the house in the late morning or late afternoon.
