How to wash a fleece blanket?

If you want to wash your fleece blankets while maintaining their super-soft feel, here is a trick for you! Simply wash your fleece blankets separately in cold water on a gentle cycle. This also prevents pilling or matting. Moreover, use only a small amount of detergent to prevent it from sticking to the fleece fibres and leaving you with a rough blanket. You should also avoid bleach because your polyester fleece blanket is naturally stain-resistant. Moreover, bleach can damage your blanket’s fibres. Otherwise, you can pre-treat your blanket by putting dish-washing liquid on the required area for about 10 minutes. After that, you can either hang your blanket to air dry or put them in your dryer but on a low-heat cycle.

How to wash a weighted blanket?

When you wash your weighted blanket, you should pay attention to its design and its type of fabric and filler. Therefore, you should check the manufacturer’s washing guidelines if your blankets are weighted with glass microbeads or plastic pellets. Also, program your washing machine on a gentle cycle while using cold water and a mild detergent. You can simply spot-clean your weighted blanket with warm water and laundry detergent if there are small stains. In addition, consider purchasing a duvet cover that you can easily remove and toss in the washing machine when it gets dirty in order to skip the troublesome washing. Also, when you dry it, you should hang it evenly so that it does not lose its shape. In fact, it is better for you to wash very heavy blankets in the larger washing machines available in laundromats!

How to wash a wool blanket?

The good news is that wool blankets naturally repel dirt and stains; hence, you only need to wash them a few times each year. Now, if you want to refresh your wool blanket in between washing times, then you can shake it out and brush it with a soft-bristle fabric brush to remove dirt and debris. Moreover, make sure to brush in the same direction in order to avoid damage to your blanket’s fibres. Another tip is to check your manufacturer’s washing guidelines, as your blanket could be dry-cleaned only! My wool blankets are machine-washable, so I use cold water and wool-safe detergent to soak them for about 15 minutes before washing them. Then, I select a gentle cycle on my machine and let it run for about two minutes before switching to the rinse cycle. Once complete, dry your wool blanket in the shade because sunlight will make its colour fade away. If necessary, roll your blanket in a towel and gently squeeze it to remove the excess moisture before drying. Moreover, do not put your wool blanket in the dryer because this will damage its delicate fibres.

How to wash an electric blanket?

Is your electric blanket machine washable like mine? First, make sure that your blanket is completely unplugged, and then wash it with cool water and detergent. Then, select the gentlest cycle possible to prevent excess force on the wiring inside. Moreover, let your machine run for 2 minutes and then skip the rinse cycle to remove your blanket. You can then air-dry your electric blanket, but you should first bring it back to its original shape. You can also put the dryer in a low heat cycle for 10 minutes. However, it is important to make sure that your electric blanket is completely dry before plugging it in and turning it on again!

How to wash a faux-fur blanket?

Faux-fur blankets are made with synthetic fibres, such as acrylic and polyester. This means that you can wash them more easily. Please do not forget to check the tag on your blanket as it may be dry clean only. However, if it is washable, place it in your washing machine with cold water and detergent. Furthermore, it is advisable to use a gentle cycle mode. Also, avoid chlorine bleach and fabric softeners. Then, air-dry your blanket and shake it to fluff the faux fur once it is dry. You can also brush it in all directions with a comb. Most importantly, you should avoid ironing it!

The proper maintenance of your blankets.

You can consistently do these little things to prolong the life of your blankets and ensure that they keep feeling like new for a long time.

Store them upright

Do not store your blankets in piles because it will result in wear and tear. Moreover, you will have to struggle a lot to take them out! Instead, store them by folding them in cylindrical shapes and placing them upright next to each other.

Consider water-free cleaning

You can dust your blankets daily or weekly to keep them clean. Moreover, you can clean the stained areas only! This is time and energy-saving and will also allow your kids to play around freely without bothering about spills over your blankets!

Handle them gently

You should avoid storing your blankets in a disorderly manner and rather dust them, fold them gently, and lay them out of bed. This method will increase its lifespan!
